Linda Ost, MS, RD, owner of Nutrition Gardener
I’m a 57 yr old registered dietitian (CDR license no. 888275) who loves to grow fruits and vegetables and help others grow their own produce as well. I received my Bachelors degree in Foods and Nutrition from California Polytechnic University and my Masters degree in Nutrition from Boston University where I studied under the best epidemiologists in the country. Though I worked in clinical and public health settings for years, growing food and bringing it to the table was and is my favorite hobby and exercise. The unanimous number one dietary improvement according to years of statistics, regardless of which equations you crunch the numbers through, is to eat a more plant-based diet. My mission is to help everyone I can to get more fruits, veggies, nuts and beans into the diet by growing them at home. The food you grow in your yard tastes so much better than store-bought and easily replaces the junk foods you want to give up anyway.
I live in Dunsmuir, CA in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest with my husband Mike who also loves to garden. Most of our one acre property is partially shaded year round with summer high temperatures in the mid-90’s and average winter overnight lows in the 20’s.
